Windows too damaged to repair? |

SIMPLE SYSTEM RESTORE w/ NO DATA MIGRATION: Viruses typically leave behind system damage that is fortunately repairable. However some viruses may render a computer essentially "damaged beyond repair". If attempts to manually repair Windows fail, there is NO charge to reinstall Windows, the latest service packs and updates, computer hardware drivers, and Adobe Reader, Flash Player, Java and other basic freeware of your choice. The end result of reinstalling Windows would be that your computer would run just as it did when you bought it new. NOTE: There are extra costs if you have critical personal data to migrate and/or restore to the new installation (see pricing below).

PERSONAL DATA BACKUP: Do you have critical personal data or even "secure data" that has not been backed up? Is your hard drive failing? |
|
+ $20.00 (optional) |
Create safety data backup of your hard drive (up to 50 GB of used hard drive space). This is HIGHLY recommended (if not a MUST) when attempting to clean viruses off of system that is at risk of losing "secure data" that has not been properly backed up with respective cryptographic key. Also a MUST if your hard drive happens to be failing AND there is critical personal data on the drive that has not been backed up. NOTE: This is not a data "recovery". At this low data "migration" price, PCR will only migrate that data which will transfer properly via the Windows "command prompt" or via imaging or cloning software without halting, locking up or other issues. This generally means that the hard drive cannot be seriously damaged. NOTES: This reduced price applies when coupled with $100.00 repair rate (above). Based on used hard drive space - not drive size. Backup goes to a hard drive that you provide or to a temporary in-shop Palisades Computer Repair drive (data stored for 3 weeks, then erased). If a Windows reinstallation becomes necessary, this price does not include any "restoration" of migrated raw data SUCH AS browser data (including bookmarks and passwords) and saved "local" emails (inbox, sent, trash, etc). Also, software programs cannot be "backed up", and therefore must be reinstalled (see below).
|
|
$0.25 for each additional 5 GB of safety data backup. Price is based on actual used hard drive space - not total drive size. |
|
|
$10.00 (optional) |
Export any "secure data"
such as Internet Explorer passwords, and encrypted files. NOTE:
"Old" computer must boot to the desktop to export. Note: Most
computer users do not have any secure data. |

If it become neccessary to reinstall Windows AND you have critical data to migrate.... |
|
FREE (optional) |
Want to upgrade to a new system C hard drive? Is your hard drive failing? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you have critical data that you need to migrate to the new Windows installation. A MUST if your drive is failing and you have critical data on the drive that has not been backed up. Why? Because the data on your "old" drive remains untouched and can be kept as a safety backup. There is some risk of data loss whenever data is migrated. Better to be safe -- Upgrade to a new drive. Does not include cost of new drive itself. |
|
FREE (optional) |
If you paid for a "Personal Data Backup" (listed above) then PCR will migrate your Windows XP "Documents and Settings" folder contents (or Vista / Windows 7 "users" folder contents) to one folder on your desktop of your new Windows installation. PCR will also manually look for any other personal data that may have been stored elsewhere on your drive, and migrate that data as well. NOTE: This does NOT include any reorganization of your files or filtering out of "junk" files. This generally means that your XP "documents and settings" folder (or Vista / 7 "users" folder) will be dropped in it's original file structure into just one folder on your desktop. It would be up to YOU to hand pick your MP3's, documents, spreadsheets, photos, etc and move then into other user locations. For an extra charge (see below) PCR can reorganize your DATA. |
| FREE |
Includes installation of Microsoft Security Essentials free
anti-virus software. |
| FREE |
Reinstall device drivers for up to 2 peripheral devices (printer, scanner, etc). $10.00 for each additional device. |
|
Should not necessary |
After a Window reinstallation you should be able to just plug your computer right back into your router (or modem) to reconnect to the Internet without any problem. But if you need PCR to restore your Internet connection there is an additional $30 charge. PCR also provides free self-help instructions. |

If you have special software / hardware to reinstall please enquire to see if PCR can help or not. |

DATA RESTORATION - Do you need to migrate and restore user settings, "local" email and/or browser data? |
|
$30.00 (optional) |
Export and / or restore 1 XP user's "Files and Settings", or all Vista or Windows 7 "users" via Easy Transfer to "new" Windows installation. Depending your operating system, this method includes some "local" email and browser data. Computer must boot to the desktop in order to perform this type of migration. This method is designed to selectively pick and chooses just the files that you need, but it should NOT be 100% relied upon in lieu of a "raw" data migration, and this method alone cannot migrate "secure" data. This method also adds some redundancy to the raw data migration method. This 50% reduced price applies when coupled with the $100.00 repair rate (above). |
|
$10.00 (optional) |
Manually export and / or restore critical data for 1 "local" email program (Thunderbird, Outlook, or Outlook Express). Even with your local email data migrated to your new installation of Windows, saved local emails will not appear in your local email program until they are "imported". NOTE: This manual method is NOT necessary if the above "Files and Settings transfer" or "Easy Transfer" methods are being used to export and/or restore your data. This reduced price applies when coupled with $100.00 repair rate (above). Sorry no support for AOL's browser / interface, which is obsolete. |
|
$10.00 (optional) |
Manually export and / or restore critical data for 1 browser (Firefox or Internet Explorer). Even with your browser data migrated to your new installation of Windows, saved bookmarks and other browser data will not appear in your local email program until it is "imported". NOTE: This manual method is NOT necessary if the above "Files and Settings transfer" or "Easy Transfer" methods are being used to export and/or restore your data. This reduced price applies when coupled with $100.00 repair rate (above). Sorry no support for AOL's email / interface, which is obsolete. |
